In 874 (the sixteenth of Jyokan era), Seiho who was a great religious leader and the disciple of Kukai, established a small prayer house on Mt. Daigoji and enshrined two deity with the name of Juntei Kannon and Nyoi Kannon, respectively. After that, this was developed in the village deep in the mountains as the hallow ground of holy man, supported by three emperors of Daigo, Suzaku and Murakami, and it was created the foundation of Daigo-ji Temple after completing the cathedral celling. On the extensive flat land at the foot of Daigo mountain, the Buddha hall was established in 926 (the fourth year of Encho era), and the great cathedral celling of the Lower Daigo was created after the five-storied pagoda was established in 951 (the fifth year of Tenreki era).
After that, the Buddha hall was destroyed due to the fires arising from the series war such as Onin War, only five-stories pagoda remain as it was at the establishing time in the Tenreki era.
By taking the opportunity to go the cherry blossom-viewing picnic, Hideyoshi Toyotomi transferred the current golden hall from the Manganji Temple at the Kisyu-Yuasa and the current Daigo-ji Temple was formed after the cathedral celling was reconstructed and the temple gate was arranged by the support of Toyotomi family and Tokugawa family.
But the Nyoi Kannon hall on the top of east side mountain of Daigoji Temple was almost destroyed due to the fire caused by the thunderbolt in 2008 (the twentieth of Heisei era).
