Kodai-ji was established by Kita no Mandokoro, the widow of Toyotomi
Hideyoshi, to pray for her late husband. Due to a series of fires, many buildings burned down. However, several buildings still remain, such as Omote-mon (front gate) , Kaisan-dou (opening mountain hut), Otama-ya (Spirit
room), Shigure-tei (shower gazebo), Kangetsu-dai (Moon viewing platform), and Kasa-tei (Umbrella gazebo) where you can see traces of the magnificent Momoyama period.
In spring, cherry blossoms bloom which represents showy Momoyama
Bunka(culture). Also Cerasus spachiana(one type of cherry blossom) in the
front garden will fascinate your eyes. In autumn, you may see tremendous
scenery of reflection of one thousands of red maple trees.
